The University of Florida’s Office of Small Business & Supplier Diversity has announced the launch of its Emerging Small Business Program in a collaborative effort with the University’s Division of Planning, Design and Construction as well as Facilities Services (Operations).

The Emerging Small Business Program is a two-year endeavor designed to develop small and diverse businesses within the construction industry. The program’s goal is to increase the pool of qualified businesses seeking opportunities with the University of Florida. During the program, small businesses can expect to receive direct guidance from representatives from Planning, Design and Construction and Facilities Services (Operations), while also being provided the opportunity to participate in projects valued up to $15,000.

The Associate Vice President for Business Affairs, Brandi Renton said “This is a fantastic opportunity for local and small construction companies in Alachua and surrounding counties. The Emerging Small Business Program was created to develop and collaborate with the local construction industry and the University of Florida (UF). This program will give participating firms exposure to industry knowledge, support from UF trade leaders and open doors across the University campus.”

To be considered eligible for the program, businesses must be located within Alachua, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Putnam or Union Counties. Eligible businesses must not exceed 15 permanent employees or have a net worth greater than $1 million. Firm owners are required to have either at least 2 years of commercial experience or have completed at least 6 commercial projects/jobs. Businesses accepted into the program are required to attend interactive workshops.
